In obedience to your Lordps Order of Reference of May 26th last, upon the Petition of |Mr| William Hamilton for being restored to his Mats p|P|lace in his Mats Mint at Edinburgh: I humbly represent that |[|I have formerly heard that from the Officers of that Mint that|]| he w{illeg}|ho| was \had been/ Clerk of the Bullion \for the Mint/ in Scotland before the Vnion of the two kingdoms of|&| w{illeg}|ho| by this Petition {illeg}|a|ppeares to be the Petitioner{|]|} lost that pla \was/ upon the ceasing of that place by the Vnion, at the int|s|tance & in recompence for the loss thereof, was inserted made an Officer in the present Mint in Scotland with a Salary of 50li per an, that salary \having/ bei|e|ng allowed him \before/ as C{illeg}|l|erk of the Bullion before the Vnion & I find him entred {illeg}|i|n the list of the Officers of that Mint with a salary at ye end of\annexed to/ the last Indenture of that Mint made between her late Maty Queen Ann & Iohn Montgomery Es by title of \Master & Worker of that Mint/ in these words: To the Clerk of the Bullion, as Assistent to the Weigher & Teller & Surveyor of the Meltings 50li fifty pounds per ann But that Indenture becoming void by the death of her said Maty, & no Patent being granted by\grant {illeg}|of| that place from/ his present Maty being entred in the books of the Treary, & {illeg} it not appearing that he was alive or\nor/ what was his name: he was omitted in the Warrant lately directed to the General of that Mint for continuing the said Indenture in force. And now it\But since it now/ appears that he is alive, if \in consideration of this|e| former services mentioned in his Petition/ his Maty shall think fit to continue/restore\ him {illeg}|to| that place, it may be done by a Warrant under his Mats signe Manual directed to the said General.
