By the statute of 2 Ann c 9, it is enacted that out of the duties value by the candle of certain East India goods the du{e}|t|ies payable for upon those goods & the allowances for prompt payments \& warehouse room/ shall be subducted & upon the cle{illeg}|ar| value wch remains to the merchant a d those duties {illeg}|sh|all be laid wch were formerly laid upon the value of the same good stated by oath. |Th{e}|is| {illeg}|A|ct was made| /to remedy the undervaluing of the goods {is}|up|on Oath.\

The duties payable upon the value by oath amounted to 35li 2s 9d per Cent. And\Now/ it|If| the by the duties payable in the \said/ statute of 2 Ann c. 9 be understood duties wch are laid by|of| Acts of Parliament & are actually to be paid, be understood they will amount to 14li 5s pr 95li {2}|3|3li 5s. 11d |pr cent| wch being subducted from the value by the candle leave 66. 14. 1 |pr cent| And the allowance for f|p|rompt payment & warehouse room being also subducted leave amounting to 12. 10 \|pr cent|/ being also su{p}|d|ucted our leave |5|4. 4. 1 |pr cent| /the clear value to the Merchant.\

The duties by th{illeg}|e| candle value of these goods \stated/ upon oath amount unto 35li 2s. 0|9|d per cent & after this rate per cent the duty \& would be the undervaluing of the goods upon oath would have been very small. But/ upon |the clear| |value \of/|54. 4. 1d \this/ amounts |un|to {illeg}|1|9li. 00s. 11d \per cent/ w{illeg}|h|ich added to {illeg}|14|. {illeg}|5|. a \per cent another/ duty laid upon the value \of the same goods/ by the candle, made the whole duty payable 33. 5. 11 per cent as above.

Quære. Whether by the d{illeg}|u|ties payable are to be understood such duties as are payable by the Act|s| of Parliament and are P{illeg} actually to be paid as has been explained above, or some other \imaginary/ duties wch are not imposed by any Acts of Parliament nor are ever to be paid
