The Exu \or French Lewis/ goes \now/ in France for 3liv. 16sols & is worth 4s 6d & thence the Livre is worth 1.s 2d∟21. The Lewid'or goes for 14 livres wch come to 8{illeg} 16.s 6d∟94 of oer money. At wch rate a Guinea is worth 1.os. 8d∟18. |For as 17s 245 to 16.s 6∟94 so is 21s. 6d 10. 20.s 8∟18|

The Ducat of gold is coyned in several parts of the Empire & some countries adjoyning & is every where of the same weight & fineneness {sic} vizd excepting that the Hungary Ducats have something better then the rest & that\are more certainly the advantage in goodness of full value,/ some of the German Ducats are {illeg}t by accident or the unskilfulness of Assaymasters are\being/ not so fine as they ought to be. It\The Ducat/ is every where coyned for two \old/ Rix Dollers \of full value/ or nine shillings & usually goes at that rate or within two or three Styvers more or less whereas in England it is worth 9s. 612d. But if the Rix Doller be of a lower value (as \are/ the Patagon of Holland the Rix Dollers of \Holland, Flanders/ Danemark &c\& several parts of Germany/ the Ducat may go for two Rix dollers & 6 8 or 10 Styvers or above.

In Holland the Hung Ducat goes usually for 5 Guilders & about 5 styvers that is in oer money for 9s. 1310d: at wch rate a Guinea is worth 20.s 615d.

The Lewidor goes in Holland for ab 9 Guilders & about 9 styvers that is for 16.s 4d∟77. At wch is 10d less rate a Guinea is worth wch is 10d less then it is worth in England before wearing. At wch rate a Guinea is worth 1|2|0.s 512d.

At Dantzick the Ducat is usually vallued at 2 Rix dollers or 9s & at that rate a Guinea is worth 20s. 3d12. /And if the Ducat be there sometimes valued at 2 or 3 sols more then two Rixdollers the Guinea will still be worth less then 2os. 7d.\

At Hamborough the Ducat goes for two Dollers & \about/ 8 or 9 sols lubs. This Doller is three Marks lubs or of Lubec & a Mark is 16 sols lubs, so that this Doller is 48 sols lubs. But the Alber Doller wth the Cross (wch before\after/ wearing is worth \less then/ 4s 6d) goes for 52 sols lubs & that & therefore the other Doller is worth less then 4s 2d & 2 Dollers 9 sols lubs \(the value of a Ducat)/ are less then 9s {illeg}|1|d. At wch rate And at this rate a Guiena will be worth less then 20s. 5d12\Again/ The Marks & sols lubs are \there/ accounted double to the Marks & sols \Dans or/ of Danemark & the four mark piece or crown of Danemark goes at Hamborough for |tw|oe Marks lubs & by the assay \of several pieces/ is worth 2s. 8d∟4. And \therefore/ three Marks lubs are worth 4.s 0∟d6. This is the value of the Doller\common/ Hamborough Doller & two Dollers & {illeg}|9| sols (the value of the Ducat) are 8s. 10∟d4. At wch rate a Guinea is worth \but/ 20s.

At Berlin the \new/ Rix Doller with the cross goes for 30{illeg} gross, & they have there another Rix doller wch goes but for 24 gross & so is worth but about 4045 pence\not worth above 4315 pen pence English Exchangers put it at a par with 40 sols of Holland wch make s 41∟64 pence English./ And the DUcat goes there/at Berlin\ for 223 of these Rix dollers or 9s. 0{14}3d. At wch rate a Guinea is worth {illeg} 20s. 1012d.

The Lewidor of France & spanish Pistole go at Bel|r|lin for between 434 & 445 of these Rix Dollers, that is between 16.s 1d45 & 16.s 5d15. At wch rate a Guinea is worth between 20s. 214d & 20s 612.

At Geneva the Hungary Ducat was lately valued at 2 Ecus & 2 or 3 sols of France that is at 9s 2d or 9s 3d & the Lewidor at 334 Ecus or 16s 1012d At which rate a Guinea is worth about 20s. 10d. There also the Ecu was Lewidor was lately valued at {illeg} 334 Ecus of France or 16s. 1012. At wch rate a Guinea is worth 21.s 1.d But gold was then\lately/ higher in France then at present, wch might also raise the price of Lewidors at Geneva.

At Bulloign in Italy the Piastre of Spain goes \or piece of 8, went lately/ for 414 lires & the \spanish/ Pistole of Spain for 1512 lires. So{illeg} that the Spanish Pistole is there to 4 Pieces of 8 (or 18s) as 414 to 10 Whence if the Piastre of piece of 8 be recco So that ye Pistole is then recconed worth 31117 Piastres or\wch amounts to/ 16s {illeg}|4|s1617, \supposing the Piastre worth 4s. 6d./ At wch rate a Guinea is worth {illeg} 20s. 512d.

At Venice

But the coynes of the several Principalities of Italy I cannot yet procure in any competent number so as to make a judgment of the proportional value of gold & silver grounded upon experiment.

<64r>

By the French Kings Edict of Sept 17 16 1701, the Marck of fine gold is valued at 494 livres 6 sols 4 deniers & the Marck of fine silver at 32 livres 16 sols seven deniers. According to which proportion a Guinea is worth 20s 8d∟63
