To the R^t Hon^ble the L^d High Treasurer of England.

May it please yo^r Lord^p

In obedience to yo^r Lord^ps Reference of 23 Novemb^r last we have enquired into the Case of M^r Antony Redhead late Master & Worker of the Mint at Norwich and find it truly stated in the annexed paper on w^ch the said Reference is endorsed. And particularly by the Day-books of that Mint & the Cashbooks of M^r Redhead & his Clerk & another book composed & signed by the Warden of that Mint we find that M^r Redhead upon the breaking up of that Mint was indebted 2497^li 16^s 3^d to M^r Leonard Blofeld for hammered money at 5^s ꝑ oz.

And whereas in discharge of this debt he produces three Receipts for 2500^li paid to M^r Blofelds Order out of that Mint the one dated Aug. 26 1697 for 500^li the other two dated Aug 30 & Sept. 1 1697 for 1000^li each: we find that M^r Blofeld did within three weeks after, viz^t 22 Sept 1697 account w^th M^r Redhead for what monies he had then received out of that Mint & endorsed the whole amounting to 14922^li on two printed Mint Tickets but neglected to take up & cancell his Receipts of some of them, & we humbly conceive that the said three Receipts were then accounted for & are discharged by the said endorsement & ought not to be insisted on any further and M^r Redhead does not any longer insist peremptorily upon them but submits them to yo^r Lord^ps Wisdom. They are in the form of private Receipts & so cannot be allowed by an Auditor as Vouchers

We further lay before yo^r Lord^p that M^r Redhead at y^e conclusion of that Mint was indebted to M^r Chaplin a Receiver of y^e Land Tax for {illeg}|2|573^oz. 5^dwt. of hammered money at 5^s ꝑ oz the summ of 643^li. 6^s. 3^d, & that in M^r Chaplins Account w^ch is past & declared & a Quietus obtained M^r Redhead is set insuper & that only at 5^s ꝑ oz.

M^r Redhead was also indebted to four other Importers Receivers M^r Briggs, M^r Rendal, M^r Clark & Thorowgood in the respective summs of 882^li. 7^s. 6^d, 1277^li. 16^s. 3^d, 431^li. 2^s. 6^d & 40^li. 6^s. 3^d. for all w^ch his {promised} Receipts stand out against him. And these & all the other debts above mentioned for silver imported amount to 5772^li. 15^s. 00^d, part of w^ch debt has arisen from the application of the Importers money to other services of the Mint for w^ch he has allowance in his Accompt now ready to be laid before yo^r Lord^p & for the Remainder M^r Neale is to be set insuper & his {illeg}|Administ|rix or security to be charged therewith, M^r Redhead seeming poor & unable to make satisfaction, & fit \not unfit/ to be set at liberty \upon baile/ so soo as it may be done by the consent of all parties {illeg}|c|oncerned.
