Custodial History

Bought at the Sotheby sale by Maggs Brothers for £5; subsequently sold to Keynes for the sale price plus 20%. In his letter to Maggs of 19 August, Keynes pointed out that part of SL311 properly belonged with SL286 (Keynes Ms. 144), and that he was willing to hand it over gratis to the purchaser of SL286. In the event this was ultimately Keynes himself: see notes to Keynes Ms. 144 above. Keynes evidently transferred four pages of SL311, which in the Sotheby sale catalogue is listed as 12 pp., to Ms. 144.
