Catalogue Entry: MINT01696
An order to investigate a dispute between the Master of the Mint [John Lonison] and the Warden [Richard Martin] concering the addition of alloy in melting
Notes
[See Westfall, 754, who suggests these documents may have been collected by Newton as master in reference to a dispute about control over melting with Craven Peyton, warden from 1708-1714. No documentation relating to such a dispute now survives, but there is ample evidence that Newton and Peyton disagreed about almost everything.]
