                    <lb xml:id="l2"/><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">on Thursday</add> about the Mint at Edinburgh, his <choice><abbr>Lo<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> proposed to us to lay before your <choice><abbr>Lo<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> 
                    <lb xml:id="l3"/>a Memorial concerning  
                    
                    <del type="strikethrough">s<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">ome</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">uch</add></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">some</add> things 
                    
                    <del type="strikethrough"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> his Lo<hi rend="superscript">p</hi> thought proper</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="strikethrough"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> might be</del></add> to be considered 
                    
                    <lb xml:id="l4"/>by the Committee of Council <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is to sit to <del type="strikethrough">morrow</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">day</add> upon the affairs of Scotland.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">His <choice><abbr>Lo<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> is considering whether the Pix of that Mint may not be still 
                    <lb xml:id="l5"/>tried before her <choice><abbr>M<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add>j<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi></abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Council in Scotland as formerly, &amp; if so, we are humbly 
                    <lb xml:id="l6"/>of opinion that in conformity to the Act of Vnion there may be made seven <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">indented</add> Trial 
                    <lb xml:id="l7"/>pieces of Crown gold &amp; seven of standard silver, two of each metal to be 
                    <lb xml:id="l8"/>kept in the two Treasuries to try the Pixes of the two Mints, two of each for 
                    <lb xml:id="l9"/>the Wardens of the two Mints to try the moneys before delivery &amp; to decide 
                    <lb xml:id="l10"/>questions between the Master &amp; Importer about the fineness of the Bullion, 
                    <lb xml:id="l11"/>two of each for the masters of <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">th</add>e two Mints to make the moneys by, 
                    <lb xml:id="l12"/><del type="strikethrough">two</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; one</add> of each for the Wardens &amp; Company of Goldsmiths <del type="strikethrough">in London</del> to try 
                    <lb xml:id="l13"/>their plate &amp; manufactures of gold &amp; silver. <del type="strikethrough">Such trial pieces have <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">formerly</del></add> beem <lb xml:id="l14"/>made by a Iury of Goldsmiths summoned &amp; sworn <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">either</del></add> by the L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> Chancellour, or <lb xml:id="l15"/>Lords Comm<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi> of the Tre<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add>sur<del type="over">y</del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">r.</add>
                        <lb type="intentional" xml:id="l16"/><space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="4"/></del> 
                    It will be also convenient that a Pile of standard <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Troy</add> <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">w</add>eights be made for 
                    <lb xml:id="l17"/>the Treasury in Scotland by the Deputy Chamberlains of the <choice><abbr>Excheq<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>Exchequer</expan></choice>, if it be 
                    <lb xml:id="l18"/>not already done. <add place="inline" indicator="no">But</add> <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>i</reg></choice>f both pixes be tried by the <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">original</add> standard weights <del type="strikethrough">kept in</del> at West<lb xml:id="l19"/>minster, six Trial pieces will be sufficient. <add place="lineEnd" indicator="no">They have formerly been made by a</add> <add place="infralinear" indicator="no">Iury of Goldsmiths summoned &amp; sworn either by the <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> Chancellour <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>r by the <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> Treasurer.</add></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par5">The Indenture of the Mint directs that two Piles of Standard Troy 
                    <lb xml:id="l20"/>weights be made <del type="strikethrough">&amp; examined</del> by the <del type="strikethrough">Officers</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">Warden</add> of the Mint &amp; one of them 
                    <lb xml:id="l21"/>delivered <del type="strikethrough">by the Warden of</del> to the General of the Mint in Scotland. They may 
                    <lb xml:id="l22"/>be printed like the weights sent to the corporations &amp; in the absence of the 
                    <lb xml:id="l23"/>General deli<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">v</add>ered to <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lo<hi rend="superscript">ps</hi></abbr><expan>Lordships</expan></choice> order.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par6"><add place="supralinear lineBeginning" indicator="yes">For setting the coynage on foot speedily in that Mint</add> Her <choice><abbr>Maty</abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> may <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">please to</add> issue out <del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">a</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">her</add> Warrant to the General &amp; other Officers 
                    <lb xml:id="l24"/><del type="strikethrough">of her Mint in Scotland</del> with a copy of the <del type="cancelled">I</del> present Indenture of the 
                    <lb xml:id="l25"/>Mint in the Tower <del type="strikethrough">annexed to it (or so much thereof as shall be thought <lb xml:id="l26"/>necessary)</del> annexed to it, authorizing &amp; commanding them to coyn the moneys <lb xml:id="l27"/>of gold &amp; silver <del type="strikethrough">according to</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">under</add> the rules <del type="strikethrough">&amp; method</del> set down in the said annexed <lb xml:id="l28"/>Copy
                    <del type="strikethrough">&amp; <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="4"/> Order of the Treasury or Council of Scotland for putting that method <lb xml:id="l29"/><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">in</unclear> <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="5"/>ting</del>
                    <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; directing <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">to</add> <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="7"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">observe</add> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">that</add> the <del type="strikethrough">Comptroller</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">Counterwarden</add> <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">to</add> <del type="strikethrough">concerning the duties of the <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="words" extent="1"/> <unclear reason="del" cert="low">that</unclear> Office <gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="4"/></del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">check the Meltings</add> <add place="lineEnd" indicator="no">&amp; coynage</add></add>

                    <add place="lineEnd" indicator="no">if any dispute sh<del type="over">ou</del><add place="over" indicator="no">al</add>l<del type="cancelled">d</del> arise about <del type="strikethrough"><del type="cancelled">the duties</del> the duties</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">the regulation of</add> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">of the Officer</del> <add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">that</add> mint</add> for <del type="strikethrough">puting that method in execution</del></add>
                    <add place="infralinear" indicator="no">the order of the <choice><abbr>Tr<hi rend="overline">ear</hi>y</abbr><expan>Treasury</expan></choice> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">or Council</add> of Scotland be o<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="3"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">obs</add>erved concerni<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">n</add>g the same.</add>
                    <choice><orig><lb type="intentional" xml:id="l30"/><hi rend="large">~</hi> <hi rend="large">~</hi></orig><reg/></choice>In the late recoynage of the hammered moneys in England, one tenth part <lb xml:id="l31"/>of the silver was coyned into sixpences &amp; four tenths into shillings, &amp; the same <lb xml:id="l32"/>proportion may be prescribed in the said Warrant if it be thought fit.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par7">Another Warrant may be directed to the <del type="cancelled">Genera</del> Master of that Mint 
                    <lb xml:id="l33"/>authorising <del type="cancelled">the</del> him to command the Graver to make <del type="cancelled">Dyes &amp;</del> Master Puncheons &amp; 
                    <lb xml:id="l34"/>Dyes for coyning the money of the same form with the money coyned in the 
                    <lb xml:id="l35"/>Tower of London &amp; to use such master Puncheons as shall be sent him from the tower 
                    <lb xml:id="l36"/>untill the Puncheons made by himself shall be approved by <add place="inline" indicator="no">t</add>h<del type="over">i</del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add><del type="cancelled">s</del> Officers <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">of that Mint</add>, &amp; to set 
                    <lb xml:id="l37"/>the letter E (the first letter of the <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">name of the</add> City of Edin<del type="over">g</del><add place="over" indicator="no">b</add>orough) under her <choice><abbr>Maj<hi rend="superscript">ties</hi></abbr><expan>Majesties</expan></choice> Effigies
                    <lb xml:id="l38"/>as in the specimens of Dyes <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> will be sent him from the Tower, that the money 
                    <lb xml:id="l39"/>coyned in the two Mints may be thereby distinguished.</p>

                <p xml:id="par8">The Gravers are making shillings Puncheons in the Tower, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">th</hi></abbr><expan>with</expan></choice> the new a<supplied reason="foxed">rms</supplied> <lb xml:id="l40"/>of great Britain, &amp; tell us that they will be <del type="strikethrough">ready</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">finished</add> with two or three pair of Dyes &amp; <lb xml:id="l41"/>be sent to Edin<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">b</add>urgh within a fortnight. And while they are coyning shillings in 
                    <lb xml:id="l42"/>that mint, there may be Puncheons made for coy<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">n</add>ing other money. For we <choice><sic>be<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l43"/>leive</sic><corr>believe</corr></choice> it may be convenient to send them the first Puncheons from hence <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add>hat 
                    <lb xml:id="l44"/>the money of both Mints may be <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">exactly</add> alike. <del type="strikethrough">Two or three pair <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">of Dyes</del></add> of each sort may <lb xml:id="l45"/>be sent with the Puncheons for patterns.</del> And if more Puncheons be at any time 
                    <lb xml:id="l46"/>desired by the Officers of that Mint, we are ready to furnish them, the same being 
                    <lb xml:id="l47"/>paid for out of moneys belonging to that Mint.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par9">A new Instrument may be <del type="strikethrough">hereafter</del> drawn up <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">at any time hereafter</add>, either in the form of an 
                    <lb xml:id="l48"/>Indenture between her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> &amp; the Master of that Mint, or in the form of 
                    <lb xml:id="l49"/>a Warrant prescribing the duty of every Officer in particular. <del type="strikethrough">In order to <lb xml:id="l50"/><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> it will be convenient that a Copy of the constitution of that Mint be <lb xml:id="l51"/>sent hither to be compared with the Indenture of this.</del><space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="5"/></p>
