                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1"><hi rend="large">The</hi> fineness of gold &amp; silver is generally estimated by <lb xml:id="l1"/>the assay &amp; bought &amp; sold by this estimate, &amp; gold <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> is <lb xml:id="l2"/>24 carats fine &amp; silver which <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">upon the assay <choice><sic>is</sic><corr type="noText"/></choice></add> is 12 ounces fine is reputed <lb xml:id="l3"/>by Assaymasters <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Goldsmiths &amp; Merchants <del type="strikethrough">fine Gold &amp; fine s</del></add> fully fine. And indented standard triall pieces <lb xml:id="l4"/>are by law to be <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">m</add>ade of 22 car<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">a</add>rats of fine gold &amp; two <lb xml:id="l5"/>carats of allay, &amp; of 11 ounces 2<hi rend="superscript">dw<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></hi> of fine silver &amp; 18<hi rend="superscript">dw<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></hi> <lb xml:id="l6"/>of allay. <del type="over">And</del><add place="over" indicator="no">But</add> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">yet</add> some Refiners have of late found out <del type="cancelled">a</del> way<supplied reason="copy" cert="medium">s</supplied> <lb xml:id="l7"/>of refining gold &amp; silver to a higher degree then 24 carrats <add place="inline interlinear" indicator="no">&amp; <lb xml:id="l8"/>twelve ounces fine, &amp; may find out ways of making them still finer.</add></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par2"><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no"> <choice><abbr>Qu?</abbr><expan>Quære</expan></choice> 1.</add> Whether there should be one common standard <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">fineness</add> of fine gold <lb xml:id="l9"/>&amp; one of fine silver in all great Britain for setting a value <lb xml:id="l10"/>upon all gold &amp; silver in buying &amp; selling, in coining of <lb xml:id="l11"/>money, &amp; in making of plate? And what is that stand<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l12"/>ard fine<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">s</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">n</add><add place="inline" indicator="no">ess</add> according to law? Or <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">may</add> it be setled by her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> in Council<supplied reason="copy" cert="medium">?</supplied> <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="4"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par3"><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no"><choice><abbr>Qu?</abbr><expan>Quære</expan></choice> 2.</add> Whether <del type="strikethrough">for this end</del> her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> may appoint standard <lb xml:id="l13"/>trial pieces to be made of such fine gold as proves just 2<del type="over"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">2</unclear></del><add place="over" indicator="no">4</add> <lb xml:id="l14"/>carats fine upon the assay <del type="strikethrough">notwithstanding</del> &amp; of such fine <lb xml:id="l15"/>silver as proves just 12 ounces fine upon the assay, notwith<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l16"/>standing that gold &amp; silver may by any new art be <lb xml:id="l17"/>refined to an higher degree? <del type="strikethrough">Or what is the standard <lb xml:id="l18"/>of fine gold &amp; fine silver according to law?</del> <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="4"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4"><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no"><choice><abbr>Qu?</abbr><expan>Quære</expan></choice> <del type="over">2</del><add place="over" indicator="no">3</add>.</add> Whether for keeping constantly to a standard, her <choice><abbr>Ma<hi rend="superscript">ty</hi></abbr><expan>Majesty</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l19"/>may direct that a piece of the fine gold of <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> the next <lb xml:id="l20"/>standard trial pieces shall be <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">duly</add> made be kept in the Exchequer <lb xml:id="l21"/>for determining with more exactness the fineness of the fine <lb xml:id="l22"/>gold &amp; fine silver of which all trial pieces shall be made <lb xml:id="l23"/>for the future.</p>
