                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par1">May it please <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p<del type="cancelled">s</del></hi></abbr><expan>Lordship<del type="cancelled">s</del></expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l1"/><space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="10"/>I have procured an assay to be made of the Oar <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> you<add place="inline" indicator="no">r</add> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice></add> sent to me, &amp; <lb xml:id="l2"/>send y<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>u inclosed the Report of the Assayer. <del type="strikethrough">by which</del> He found neither <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">silver nor</add> Lead nor any <lb xml:id="l3"/>other metal in the Oar: but in <del type="strikethrough">melting</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">assaying</add> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">it</add> some part of it evaporated in a sulphureous fume <lb xml:id="l4"/>&amp; the rest <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> became a cinder without yeilding any metall. He tells me that if he had had <lb xml:id="l5"/>a sufficient quantity of Oar he would have made two or <del type="strikethrough">three</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="no"><del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" extent="1" unit="chars"/></del> more</add> assays. For a single <del type="over">a</del><add place="over" indicator="no">A</add>ssay <lb xml:id="l6"/>is scarce  <del type="strikethrough">to be trusted</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">sufficient to ground a rep<del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add indicator="no" place="over">o</add>rt upon</add> by reason of <del type="cancelled">the different natures of Oars, &amp;</del> unforeseen accidents. <lb xml:id="l7"/>&amp; the different natures of Oares. <del type="cancelled">; &amp;</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">He tells me also</add> that the Oare <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I gave him was scarce sufficient <lb xml:id="l8"/>to make a single assay: &amp; that to enable him to make a <del type="over">r</del><add place="over" indicator="no">R</add>eport with assurance, there should <lb xml:id="l9"/>have been a pound of oar or at the least half a pound, <del type="strikethrough">I am</del> &amp; that if I can help him <lb xml:id="l10"/>to any more of the Oar he will repeat the Assay.
