                <p rend="center" xml:id="par1">The Examina<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>on of Mary Clark the wife of Rob<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Clark of <lb xml:id="l1"/>Robin Hoods Court in Shoe Lane in the <choice><orig>ꝑ</orig><reg>par</reg></choice>ish of S<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. Andrews <lb xml:id="l2"/>Holborn Yeoman taken this 12<hi rend="superscript">th</hi>. day of Aug<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>. 1698</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2">Who upon examina<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">c</hi></orig><reg>ti</reg></choice>on sayth that <choice><abbr>abo<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>about</expan></choice> 3 months this Examinants sister Susannah Bentley who then lived with <lb xml:id="l3"/>this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> brought a wooden Box nailed up to this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Examinants</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l4"/>said house and told her that it had been left at one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>. <lb xml:id="l5"/>Gattons house at the Flying horse in Mytre Court Fleet street <lb xml:id="l6"/>and that this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Examinants</expan></choice> said sister had the said <lb xml:id="l7"/>box delivered to her by Gatton or some of his

                    <choice><sic>Famaly</sic><corr>Family</corr></choice> who told her at the delivery thereof <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Read desired her <lb xml:id="l8"/>to take the said box to this Examinant's house and let stand there for <lb xml:id="l9"/>two or 3 dayes. And this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> further sayth that she sent her <lb xml:id="l10"/>said sister severall times to one M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Lacy's house in Newstreet <lb xml:id="l11"/>near Fetter Lane where the said Read used to frequent to tell <lb xml:id="l12"/>Read or Lacy to fetch the said Box away from this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="overline">an</hi>ts</abbr><expan>Examinants</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l13"/>house but M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>. Lacy sent word by the said Susannah <lb xml:id="l14"/>Bentley <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> she desired this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> to let the said Box stand <lb xml:id="l15"/>in her house till she the said M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi> Lacy went abroad againe <lb xml:id="l16"/>she being then lately brought to Bedd And this Examinant <lb xml:id="l17"/>saith that upon Fryday or Saturday last part the said <lb xml:id="l18"/>M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>. Lacy came to this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Examinants</expan></choice> house and wanted the said <lb xml:id="l19"/>Box and said that she would take it away for she could not <lb xml:id="l20"/>tell but there might be some things in it that would damnify <lb xml:id="l21"/>her husband if it was seized for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> he was lately come into <lb xml:id="l22"/>some trouble concerning putting away some false <choice><sic>Gineas</sic><corr>Guineas</corr></choice>  <lb xml:id="l23"/>or words to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> effect, and the day after (viz<hi rend="superscript">t</hi> on Sunday <lb xml:id="l24"/>last<choice><orig>,</orig><reg><supplied reason="omitted">)</supplied></reg></choice> there came a <choice><sic>Midle</sic><corr>Middle</corr></choice> aged thick, short woman to this <lb xml:id="l25"/>Examinant's and told her she came from M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi>. Lacy for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l26"/>White Box that this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> had then in her custody and this <lb xml:id="l27"/><choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> did then deliv<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">r</hi></orig><reg>er</reg></choice> the said box <del type="over"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">t</add>o the said woman who carryed it away <lb xml:id="l28"/>from this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi></abbr><expan>Examinants</expan></choice> house but <choice><sic>whither</sic><corr>whether</corr></choice> or who the said woman was this <lb xml:id="l29"/><choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> doth not know And this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice>  further saith that yesterday in <lb xml:id="l30"/>the Evening the said M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi> Lacy came to this <choice><abbr>Inform<hi rend="superscript">ts</hi>.</abbr><expan>Informants</expan></choice> house + wanted <lb xml:id="l31"/>the said box of this <choice><abbr>Exam<hi rend="superscript">t</hi>.</abbr><expan>Examinant</expan></choice> who told her the said M<hi rend="superscript">rs</hi> Lacy that she had <lb xml:id="l32"/>sent her the <choice><abbr>s<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>said</expan></choice> box according to her appointm<choice><orig><hi rend="superscript">t</hi></orig><reg>ent</reg></choice> and dire<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">co</hi></orig><reg>tio</reg></choice>n and Lacy <lb xml:id="l33"/>replyed that she was sorry for it for <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></abbr><expan>that</expan></choice> she wanted it to send into <lb xml:id="l34"/>the Countrey</p>
