                <p xml:id="par3"><hi rend="large">I</hi> received the favour of your Letter some time <lb xml:id="l1"/>agoe, With the honour of a Copie of His Highness <lb xml:id="l2"/>Instructions to Doctor Brandshagen and his Assistant <lb xml:id="l3"/><choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ames Hamilton, about the Survey and tryall of Sir <lb xml:id="l4"/><choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn Erskine's Mine.</p>
                
                <p xml:id="par4">The Doctor arrived her about a fo<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">r</hi></orig><reg>r</reg></choice>tnight agoe <lb xml:id="l5"/>he has since been frequently with My Lord Lauderdale <lb xml:id="l6"/>and me, And has been preparing necessary materialls <lb xml:id="l7"/>for <choice><sic>exe<hi rend="overline">c</hi>utting</sic><corr>executing</corr></choice> his instr<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">u</hi></orig><reg>u</reg></choice>ctions, wherein I have gi<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">v</hi></orig><reg>v</reg></choice>en <lb xml:id="l8"/>him all the assistance I co<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">u</hi></orig><reg>u</reg></choice>ld, and every thing is in <lb xml:id="l9"/>readines. And now within these few dayes Sir <choice><orig>I</orig><reg>J</reg></choice>ohn <lb xml:id="l10"/>Erskine is arrived, and offers immediatly to goe and <lb xml:id="l11"/>show where the Mine is, And My Lord Lauderdale and <lb xml:id="l12"/>I are likewise ready to sett o<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">u</hi></orig><reg>u</reg></choice>t, but the Doctor complain<supplied reason="foxed">s</supplied> <lb xml:id="l13"/>that he wants money, not onlie for defraying the charge <lb xml:id="l14"/>of the tryalls but for his own and the Hamilto<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">u</hi></orig><reg>u</reg></choice>ns <lb xml:id="l15"/>subsistence. M<hi rend="superscript">r</hi> Haldane of <unclear reason="hand">Gleemeges</unclear> by whom <lb xml:id="l16"/>he expected to be supplied with e<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">v</hi></orig><reg>v</reg></choice>ery thing (as the <lb xml:id="l17"/>Doctor sayes) telling him that he had no manner of <lb xml:id="l18"/>orders about furnishing him with money, And

                    Witho<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">u</hi></orig><reg>u</reg></choice>t money he sayes he cannot proceed. <lb xml:id="l19"/>Thus the matter att present stands, And on this <lb xml:id="l20"/>account the execution of the Instructions came to <lb xml:id="l21"/>suffer a delay, which the Season of the year makes not soe <lb xml:id="l22"/>convenient, I perceiving indeed that the Doctor absolu<supplied reason="damage">tely</supplied> <lb xml:id="l23"/>wanted, and he being a stranger, Out of my duety to t<supplied reason="damage">he</supplied> <lb xml:id="l24"/>Governement, your Recommendation, and rega<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">r</hi></orig><reg>r</reg></choice>d to the <lb xml:id="l25"/>mans necessities, for his and the Hamiltons present sub<lb type="hyphenated" xml:id="l26"/>sistances, ha<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">v</hi></orig><reg>v</reg></choice>e advanced him £16: <choice><abbr>ster</abbr><expan>sterling</expan></choice>.</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par5">I humbly I<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">u</hi></orig><reg>u</reg></choice>dged it propper to give you this acco<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">u</hi></orig><reg>u</reg></choice>nt <lb xml:id="l27"/>that you might know, how the matter is, Mr Haldane <lb xml:id="l28"/>has been in the countrey <choice><unclear reason="damage" cert="high">these</unclear><unclear reason="damage" cert="low" source="Newton Correspondence">for</unclear></choice> severall dayes, I shall <lb xml:id="l29"/>alwayes be verry ambitious of anie opport<choice><orig><hi rend="overline">u</hi></orig><reg>u</reg></choice>nity to show <lb xml:id="l30"/>with how much respect.
