    <p xml:id="par2"><del type="blockStrikethrough">The Copper Ore <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I received of <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> to be assayed yeilds <lb xml:id="l1"/>only <space dim="horizontal" unit="chars" extent="8"/> of silve<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">r</add> in the pound weight Averdupois. It is therefore <lb xml:id="l2"/>a different sort of Ore from that <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> yeilded the silver, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l3"/>gave me to be assayed.</del></p>
    <p xml:id="par3"><del type="blockStrikethrough"><hi rend="large">A</hi> pound weight (Averpois) of th<del type="over">e</del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add>t Ore yielded not fi<del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">f</add>teen <lb xml:id="l4"/>pence but fifteen penny weight &amp; some grains of silver <del type="strikethrough">[<choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> upon <lb xml:id="l5"/>the Assay proved <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">not x<hi rend="superscript">dwt</hi> <choice><abbr>ob</abbr><expan>obolus</expan></choice> but</del></add> xvii<hi rend="superscript">dw<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></hi> better then standard &amp; therefore is worth <lb xml:id="l6"/>four shillings &amp; two pence.]</del></del></p>
    <p xml:id="par4"><del type="blockStrikethrough"><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">And</add> A piece cut off <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">from the silver</add> &amp; flatted &amp; <del type="strikethrough">carried</del> <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">sent</add> to the Mint <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">by my Lord Mayor</add> to be assayed had <lb xml:id="l7"/>some black dirt sticking <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">fast</add> to it, <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> made the Assay prove <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">only</add> x<hi rend="superscript">dwt</hi> <choice><abbr>ob</abbr><expan>obolus</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l8"/>better, but by two assays of cleane<del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">r</unclear></del> pieces since made by my order <lb xml:id="l9"/><del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">si</unclear></del>the silver proves xvii<hi rend="superscript">dw<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></hi> better; <del type="over">A</del><add place="over" indicator="no">a</add>nd fifteen penny weight of <lb xml:id="l10"/>such silver is worth <del type="cancelled">4<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></del> four shillings &amp; two pence. <del type="strikethrough">And <lb xml:id="l11"/>therefore a pound weight of the true Ore yields 4<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> in silver.</del></del></p>

    <p xml:id="par7"><del type="strikethrough">I understand that</del> The silver <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> your Lordship gave me to be <lb xml:id="l13"/>assayed, <del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> was produced out of a pound weight Averdupois of Ore <lb xml:id="l14"/>&amp; weighed <del type="cancelled">f</del> not fifteen pence but fifteen penny weight &amp; some <lb xml:id="l15"/>grains when it first came out of the Ore. It had some dirt <lb xml:id="l16"/>sticking to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> bottom <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">of it</add> &amp; a piece cutt off &amp; flatted with the dirt &amp; sent <lb xml:id="l17"/>by my Lord Mayor to the Mint to be assayed, proved <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">only</add> x<hi rend="superscript">dw<hi rend="superscript">t</hi></hi> <choice><abbr>ob</abbr><expan>obolus</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l18"/>better then standard, <del type="strikethrough">because</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">because</add> the Assay <del type="strikethrough">was</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">being</del> was</add> spoiled by the dirt <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> <lb xml:id="l19"/>stuck fast to the assay piece. <del type="cancelled">For</del> <del type="over">b</del><add place="over" indicator="no">B</add>y two assays <del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="medium">cut</unclear> off</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> I caused to be made</add> of clean pieces <lb xml:id="l20"/>cut off from <del type="strikethrough">it</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">the silver</add>, it proved xvii<hi rend="superscript">dwt</hi> better then standard. <del type="over"><gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="2"/></del><add place="over" indicator="no">No</add>w fifteen <lb xml:id="l21"/>penny weight of such <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">fine</add> silver is work four shillings &amp; two pence. <lb xml:id="l22"/>And therefore <del type="strikethrough">according to <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> information given to my <choice><abbr>L<hi rend="superscript">d</hi></abbr><expan>Lord</expan></choice> Mayor <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><del type="strikethrough">of London</del></add></del> the <lb xml:id="l23"/>Ore is exceedingly rich, a pound weight averdupois holding 4<hi rend="superscript">s</hi> 2<hi rend="superscript">d</hi> in silver.<add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">This silver holds no gold</add></p>
    
<p xml:id="par8"><del type="cancelled">But the</del> <del type="strikethrough">Copper</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">Two ounces <del type="strikethrough">of the Troy of the of the</del>Troy of the</add> <del type="over">o</del><add place="over" indicator="no">O</add>re <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> your <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> gave me to be assayed <del type="strikethrough">seems <lb xml:id="l24"/>to be <del type="cancelled">of</del> another sort of Ore</del> yeilded upon the first melting three <lb xml:id="l25"/>penny weight of silver <choice><abbr>w<hi rend="superscript">ch</hi></abbr><expan>which</expan></choice> upon the Assay proved<del type="cancelled"><gap reason="illgblDel" unit="chars" extent="1"/></del> two penny <lb xml:id="l26"/>weight worse then standard, &amp; therefore was worth 9<hi rend="superscript">d</hi><formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"><mfrac><mn>1</mn><mn>4</mn></mfrac></math></formula>, &amp; after <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l27"/>this rate a pound <tei:add xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" place="supralinear" indicator="yes">weight</tei:add> averdupois of the Ore produces 22 penny <tei:del xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" type="cancelled">w<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:del><tei:add xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" place="supralinear" indicator="no">weight</tei:add> of <tei:lb xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="l28"/>silver <tei:add xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" place="supralinear" indicator="yes"><tei:choice><tei:abbr>w<tei:hi rend="superscript">ch</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>which</tei:expan></tei:choice> is</tei:add> worth about 5<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">s</tei:hi> 7<tei:hi xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" rend="superscript">d</tei:hi>.</p>
    
    <tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="par9">An ounce Troy of the same Ore yeilded upon the first <tei:lb xml:id="l29"/>melting 1<tei:hi rend="superscript">dw<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:hi> <tei:del type="cancelled"><tei:choice><tei:abbr>ob</tei:abbr><tei:expan>obolus</tei:expan></tei:choice></tei:del> 12<tei:hi rend="superscript">gr</tei:hi> &amp; this being melted again <tei:choice><tei:abbr>w<tei:hi rend="superscript">th</tei:hi></tei:abbr><tei:expan>with</tei:expan></tei:choice> a convenient flux <tei:lb xml:id="l30"/>pounder <tei:del type="strikethrough">there remained</tei:del> <tei:del type="strikethrough">only</tei:del><tei:add place="supralinear" indicator="no">left</tei:add> 1<tei:hi rend="superscript">dwt</tei:hi> &amp; 10<tei:del type="over"><tei:gap reason="over" unit="chars" extent="1"/></tei:del><tei:add place="over" indicator="no">0</tei:add><tei:hi rend="superscript">gr</tei:hi> <tei:add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">of fine silver</tei:add>, &amp; after a third melting <tei:lb xml:id="l31"/>there remained 1<tei:hi rend="superscript">dw<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:hi> wanting 4<tei:hi rend="superscript">gr</tei:hi>, some of the silver being lost among <tei:lb xml:id="l32"/>the scorias. This last silver upon the Assay proved xiij<tei:hi rend="superscript">dw<tei:hi rend="superscript">t</tei:hi></tei:hi> better <tei:lb xml:id="l33"/>then standard.</tei:p>
    
<tei:p xmlns:tei="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" xml:id="par10"><tei:del type="strikethrough">This silver holds no gold</tei:del><tei:add place="supralinear interlinear" indicator="no">The Ore holds little or no copper. It is silver Ore, but where it grows doth <tei:lb xml:id="l34"/>not yet appear to me.</tei:add></tei:p>
