[Note on dating: NC gives 5 June 1707, which it says is the date of the copy in the Royal Mint Record Books Mint 1/8, p. 144, but there is no such copy. There is, however, a similar but considerably longer request from the Mint Board to the Treasury, also mentioning trial pieces and details of the Edinburgh master's indenture, in Mint 1/8, p. 143, dated 2 June 1707.]

For recoining the moneys inof Scotland in her MajtiesMajesties Mint at Edinborough

An Order of her MatyMajesty or Counsecil is humbly desired, that yethe Warden orf her MajtiesMajesties Mint isn the Tower do forthwith make or cause to be made two Piles of Troy weight of great Britain, in the most exact & perfect manner that by his endeavours can be done, & that the greater & smaller weights of the said two Piles be made & framed proportionable thereunto, & that they be examined & stamped wthwith the date & printed with a Rose & Thistle standing upon one common stalk & crowned wthwith one common crown & the date stamped upon them, in the presence of the Officers of her MajtiesMajesties Mint in the Tower, & that one of the said Piles be then delivered by the said Warden to the Order of the Lord High Treasurer to be carried to her MajtiesMajesties Mint at Edinborough & there to remain with her MajtiesMajesties Officers of the said Mint, to the end that other weights of Troy may be there made conformable unto them, & the other of the said piles to remain within the Warden or Wardens for the time being within the said Tower of London.
