                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par2"><hi rend="larger">M</hi><hi rend="large">ay it please <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi>:</abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi>.</abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice></hi> <space dim="vertical" unit="lines" extent="2"/></p>
                
                <p xml:id="par3"><hi rend="large"><hi rend="bold">A</hi> Q</hi>uestion being moved about a Clause in the Gravers <lb xml:id="l1"/>Patent I humbly beg leave to lay the matter before your Lordship. <lb xml:id="l2"/><hi rend="large">A</hi>ll persons haveing a liberty to make Medals unless restrained <lb xml:id="l3"/>by the Government, the Gravers of the Mint have by a clause in <lb xml:id="l4"/>their Patent been allowed and all others prohibited to make <lb xml:id="l5"/>Medals with the Effigies of the King or Queen. And this <lb xml:id="l6"/><del type="strikethrough">Office or</del> Place of Medal-maker to the Crown has been sometimes <lb xml:id="l7"/><del type="over">E</del><add place="over" indicator="no">e</add>ncouraged by a Large Salary out of the Civil List &amp; sometimes <lb xml:id="l8"/><del type="over">G</del><add place="over" indicator="no">g</add>ranted to strangers and is no part of the <del type="over">C</del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>onstitution of the Mint <lb xml:id="l9"/>For by the standing constitution of the Mint the Moneyers <del type="over">C</del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>oyne <lb xml:id="l10"/><del type="over">W</del><add place="over" indicator="no">w</add>hatever the Government <del type="strikethrough">has occasion for</del><add place="supralinear" indicator="no">wants</add> whether Money Medals <lb xml:id="l11"/>or <del type="over">h</del><add place="over" indicator="no">H</add>ealing pieces, the <del type="over">M</del><add place="over" indicator="no">m</add>etal weight allay &amp; form of the money <lb xml:id="l12"/>and <del type="over">M</del><add place="over" indicator="no">m</add>edals being first appointed by the King or Queen by the <lb xml:id="l13"/>advice of the Council, and the Graver only makes the stamps. This <lb xml:id="l14"/>I take to be the proper way of <del type="over">C</del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>oyning such Medals as the <lb xml:id="l15"/>Government approves of &amp; I am humbly of <del type="over">O</del><add place="over" indicator="no">o</add>pinion that no other <lb xml:id="l16"/>Medals should be <del type="over">C</del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>oyned by the Mint.</p>
                
                <p rend="indent0" xml:id="par4"><hi rend="large">T</hi>he <hi rend="large">G</hi>ravers privilege of makeing other Medals for their <lb xml:id="l17"/>private advantage is an encouragement to them to improve <lb xml:id="l18"/>themselves and to be <del type="over">C</del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>ontent with less <del type="over">S</del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add>alaries. If it be <lb xml:id="l19"/><del type="cancelled">C</del><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">c</add>ontinued they may be obliged to set their <del type="over">N</del><add place="over" indicator="no">n</add>ames or <choice><abbr>y<hi rend="superscript">e</hi></abbr><expan>the</expan></choice> first <lb xml:id="l20"/><del type="cancelled">L</del><add place="lineBeginning" indicator="no">l</add>etters thereof on their own Medals to distinguish them from <lb xml:id="l21"/>Medals made by the Mint <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">or be otherwise limited as <choice><abbr>yo<hi rend="superscript">r</hi></abbr><expan>your</expan></choice> <choice><abbr>Lord<hi rend="superscript">p</hi></abbr><expan>Lordship</expan></choice> shall think fit</add> if abrogated they may want <del type="over">S</del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add>ome <lb xml:id="l22"/>other encouragement <add place="supralinear interlinear" indicator="yes">to improve themselves &amp; may expect to be paid for the<del type="cancelled"><unclear reason="del" cert="low">ir</unclear></del> Dyes &amp; Puncheons they make for Medals.</add> <hi rend="large">Whether</hi> it shall be <del type="over">C</del><add place="over" indicator="no">c</add>ontinued <add place="supralinear" indicator="yes">&amp; in what manner</add> or <add place="lineEnd" indicator="no">be</add> <lb xml:id="l23"/>abrogated is most humbly <del type="over">S</del><add place="over" indicator="no">s</add>ubmitted to your Lordships <lb xml:id="l24"/><del type="over">G</del><add place="over" indicator="no">g</add>reat <del type="over">W</del><add place="over" indicator="no">w</add>isdom</p>
