The Information of John Peers taken upon Oath the 18th. day of May 1697

That he does know one Ioyce Hanbury who lives within Ludgate in Green lane a Lodger at Mr Newberries who has told this Informant that one John {Doin} that lives at Waltham who pretends to be husband to woman lodging in the same house a Chandler that is Confederate with Counterfeiters of the Current Coyn of this Kingdom and that the said Ioyce did ask this Informant to make an Edging Tool, that he did see in William Chaloner's Brother Ioseph Grosvenrs house Cutters and Tooles Instruments propper for coyning only with which this Informant did see the said Grosvenr. actually counterfeit a Milld Shilling at his house an oyle shop in Beauford Buildings in a Fore Garret about five or 6 weeks at the furthest since and this Informant sayes that he carryed divers Tooles necessary for making the said Engine to the said Grosvenr. but could not get them from him since and that he promised this Informant should be employed so as to get a great deal of money in a short time and that the said Chaloner did tell the said Grosvenr that if he did not deliver to him the said Engines or Cutters he would have him in a Proclamation about a Fortnight since at Clark's the Flask Tavern against the Mewes And further that he hath heard the said Chaloner often say and particularly within these 3 weeks that he had fund the Lords of the Treasury and the King out of 1000ll. and that he would not leave the Parliament till he had fund them likewise which this Informant understood to be deceiving them
