To the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of his Majesties Treasury

The humble Petition of Hopton Haines

Sheweth

That your Petitioner sometime before and severall years since the Revolution acted for Thomas Hall Esqr in the station of Kings chief Clerk and Clerk of the papers in his majesties Mint in the Tower of London

That at the begining of the late Grand Coynage. He at the Instance of some of the principall officers then in the Mint quitted a settled Employ to serve the publick on that extraordinary occasion and instructed the officers and Clerks of the 9 Country Mints

That dureing the Grand Coynage he supervised and examined the Books and Accompts of all the six Mints

That in 1697 He was recommended to the favour of this Honourable Board by all the Principall officers of the Mint viva voie.

That your Petitioners behaviour, Loyalty & qualifications are particularly known to, & will be attested by Tho. Hall Esqr of the Excise & Isaac Newton Esqr Master & worker of the Mint. and are not he believes unknown to Sir Ino Stanley the Warden of the Mint

Your Petitioner therefore most humbly prays your Lordships favour in bestowing upon him the place of weigher and Teller in the Mint now vacant by the death of Mr. Tho: Fitch
