The Deposicon of Martha Harwell daught^r of Martha Atkinson 27 Octo 1697

This Depon^t. saith that on Saturday between 5 and 6 weeks ago She and on M^r. Cook being togeather in the Great Room up 2 pair of Stairs in the house of M^r. Iohn Gibbons near Charing Cross this Depon^ts mother Martha Atkinson called her to the Door and told her the house was going to be searcht and the Depon^t. returning back into the room told M^r. Cook the same and there upon the said M^r Cook taking the Deponent's Riding hood put into it a Flask and some pots and other things and giving it to the Depon^t. bid her carry it out of the doores and he would take the paper (meaning almost a Ream of paper part of which was stampt) for he knew how to dispose of it and as the Depon^t. was going down staires with the said Hood and things in it she was stopt and brought back into the room by one who came with a Conble and others to search the house the Depon^t. saith also that abo^t. 3 or 4 dayes before the searching the house she did see M^r. Cook pour something out of a litle pot upon the fire into a Flask and asking him what it was he answer^d y^t it was Gold and that abo^t. a week before that time the said Cook pulling some money out of his pocket amongst w^ch was an unusuall piece of Gold the Depon^t. asked him what it was he told her it was a Spanish Pistoll. She saith also that since the said Cook was apprehended he protested to the Depon^t. y^t he did never any more pistolls then 10 and these they had. The Depon^t. saith also y^t she hath rented of the s^d M^r. Gibbons for a year and a half untill the apprehending of the said Cook 4 rooms up 2 pair of stairs in the said Gibbons's after the rate of 10^ll. ꝑ ann and soo after she first rented them one mr Neale <40r> was brought to the Depon^t. and rented of her a room for 2^s. ꝑ week for abo^t. 3 months togeather and in that room built a Furnance in the Chimney and used to come in in the morn and go back at night and keep himself lockt up at night in the room all the day and when he went away he went into Holland (as Cook told this Depon^t.) and left in the room all the Tooles which have been since taken upon the said M^r.
