Whereas Our High Treasurer of England hath laid before Vs, A Report made by You the Officers of Our Mint on the Peticon of the Gravers of Our said Mint, Wherein they Represent, That Good Graving is the best security of the Coin of our Kingdom, and best acquired by Graveing of Medals, That without Exercise in such Graveing the Gravers may in time lose the skill which they have already acquired. And that it is the Duty of You the Master & Worker of Our Mint to take care that the Money be well Coined And have therefore proposed, That you the Master & Worker of Our Said Mint may be Impowered by Vs to give leave to the said Gravers or any of them, to make and sell such Medalls of fine Gold and fine Silver, as do not relate to State Affairs, And that upon Such Medalls as shall be made for Rewarding persons for their good services to us, to Impress the service for which such Medalls are given with the Date And that You be further Impowered to Direct & Require the said Gravers and Every of them, to make such other Medals of fine Gold, fine Silver and fine Copper, with plain Historical Designs & Inscriptions in Memory of Great Actions as shall be Approved of by you the said Warden Master and Comptroller of Our Mint, And to make Imbossements, Puncheons, Dyes and other Instruments requisite for Coining the same according to such Orders as they or any of them respectively shall from time to time receive from you the said Master & Worker of Our Mint and not otherwise. Wee haveing taken the Premisses into Our Royal Consideration are Gratiously pleased to Approve thereof, And Accordingly Our Will and pleasure is And Wee do hereby Authorise and Impower You Our Said Master and Worker of Our Mint to give Liberty to the said Gravers to make such Medals from time to time of fine Gold and fine Silver for the Improvement of the Art of Graveing as do not relate to state affairs taking care that such of them as shall be for Rewarding persons for Good Services to Vs have Impressed upon them the Service for which such Medals were given with the Date. And our further pleasure is And Wee do hereby Impower you likewise to Direct & Require the said Gravers and Every of them to make such other Historical Medalls in Memory of Great Actions as shall be Approved off by the Warden, Master and Worker and Comptroller of Our Mint aforesaid.

And in Order thereunto to direct them to make such Embossements, puncheons, Dyes & other Instruments as shall be requisite for Coining the same. For all which this shall be Your Warrant. Given at Our Court at Kensington the second day of November 1706 In the Fifth Year of Our Reign
