Newton to the Keeper of the Marshalsea Prison for the County of Surrey

Whereas you have in your Custody y^e body of Charles Eccleston Committed to you by Warr^t under the hand & seale of M^r Rich one of his Maties Iustices of |○| the peace for y^e said Country for High Treason in counterfeiting the current coyne of this Kingdom, & forasmuch as |Isaac Newton| it is by \their Excellencies/ the Lords Iustices of England referred to me Isaac Newton Esqr one of his Maties Iustices of the Peace for the said County & Warden of his Ma^ties Mint to make such person or persons evidences in cases of clipping & coyning as I shall think fit, & I being well satisfied of the good service of of the said Charles Ecclestone to y^e Government do hereby intend to make him one of his Ma^ties Evidences: These are therefore in his Ma^ties name to command \require/ & command you forthwith upon sight hereof to deliver him the said Charles Ecclestone into the safe custody of the b|B|earer or b|B|earers in order to give his evidence at Hicks Hall in S^t Iohn's street against several persons for coyning & for so doing this shall be yo^r d|D|ischarge. Given under my hand & seale this seventh day of September Anno Dni 1696.

Receive herewith the bo sent you into yo^r safe Custody the Body of Charles Ecclestone being charged upon Oath w^th h|H|igh Treason in counterfeiting the current Coyne of this Kingdom, & he being now intended for one of his Ma^ties evidences against several clippers & coyners of false & counterfeit money: These are therefore in his Ma^ties name to require you to keep him in safe custody untill further Order & untill he shall be discharged by due course of Law, & for yo^r so doing this shall be yo^r warrant. Given under my hand & seale this seventh day of September Anno Dni 1696.

Whereas you have in your Custody the body of Joseph Gregory committed to yo^r Warr^t under the hand & seal of M^r Railton one of his Maties Iustices of Peace for y^e said County & city & forasmuch as it is by \their Excellencies/ the Lords Iustices of England referred to me Isaac Newton Esqr one of his Ma^ties Iustices of y^e Peace for y^e said County & Citty & Warden of his Ma^ties Mint to make such person or persons evidences in cases of Clipping & Coyning as I shall think fitt & I being well satisfied of y^e c|g|ood service of the said Joseph Gregory to y^e Government do hereby intend to make him one of his Maties Evidences These are therefore in his Ma^ties name to require & command you forthwith upon sight hereof to deliver him the said Joseph Gregory {illeg} into the safe custody of the b|B|earer or Bearers hereof in order to give his evidence at Hicks Hall in St John's street against several persons for High Treason, & for yo^r so doing this shall be yo^r discharge.
