A Bill of Tho Hodgskins Smith for work done in severall needfull places of y^e Commonwealths Mint in y^e Tower of London from Dec to 1652 to Sept 20 1653, amounting to 19^li 18^s 6^d p^d by Iohn S^t Iohn Es & y^e receipt signed Tho. Hodgkins not written but printed at y^e foot of y^e Rec^t.

An Acc^t of y^e Wardens Iohn S^t Iohn Es from Mar 25 1656 to Mar 25 1657 wherein is set down, Payd Tho. Hodgkins Smith two Bills 54^l. 2^s. 2^d. And no other Smith is mentioned in this Bill.

Another Fee Book begi{illeg}|nn|ing Mar 25 1648 \& {illeg}|e|nding Mar 25 1654/ wherein Tho. Hodgk{in} is set down to Tho Hodgkins Smith of the Mint a quarters fee the summ of 2^℔ 10^s & signed Tho Hodgs|k|ins in print.

There is a Bill signed in print Tho. Hodgkins for the year 1647

|M^r Smiths information|

Tite was Smith of y^e Ordnance & lived in Hodkins house & Hodk|g|kins succeeded him before the civil war began upon king Charles's coming from Scotland.

Martin lived in the little house at y^e end of y^e mill house w^ch is now a little {illeg}|store| house in y^e possession of |M^r| Silvester he was Smith of y^e Mint & was also succeeded by Hodgkins A. C. 1644

When Hodgkins came in \w^th a Patent/ {illeg}|o|ld Capt. Sherburn said to who was then Clerk to y^e Ordnance said to the Surveyor of y^e Ordnance that he must deliver to Hodgkins {illeg}|p|ossession of all, meaning of y^e house & shops

M^r |W^m| Pellet \iron monger/ |at| the Mermaid at y^e lower end of S^t Dunstans Hill at y^e upper end of {Tower}\Thames/ street was at y^e making of y^e bargain between M^r Hodgkins & M^r Silvester.

M^r Hodgkins after y^e|h|e sold his Smith of y^e Ordnances place continued Smith of y^e {m}|M|int till his death \or at least for some years/ & {illeg} M^r Smith was his partner & \M^r Hodkins/ reserved a room inSilvesters house to lye o|i|n {illeg}|&| two fires in y^e upper shop to do y^e work of y^e Mint in, M^r Smith being then his partner And after his death M^r Silvester succeeded him. And M^r Smith believed|s| that M^r Hodgkins Silvester succeded {sic} in the Sallary of 10^℔ per {illeg}|an|. M^r Smith bel{illeg}|e|ives {sic} that M^r Hodgkins & M^r Silvester did y^e |gross| Smiths {illeg}|w|ork. M^r Hodgkins \made &/ hardned y^e stamps & y^e stakes but did not fourg{e} y^e stamps but Iohnson was Diemaker till they began upon y^e milled money. And then Iohnson made & hardned y^e Dies. But Hodgkins had y^e Salary of 10^℔ ꝑ an till his dying day & reserved it to himself when M^r Smith became his partner w^ch was when M^r Silvester entered upon the place.

M^r Bateman Wheelewright to y^e Office of Ordnance remembere|s|d Tite his god father & is sure that Tite lived in the Silvesters house when Martin was Smith of y^e Mint & li{illeg}|v|ed in y^e house at y^e end of y^e Mill room.

M^r Oliver Surveyer of y^e Kings works was Glasier to y^e Mint

M^r Hodgkins partner to S^r Iohn Sweetapple at y^e black Boy in Lumbard street

Es Cash of {illeg}|H|ackney in Grove street was Carpenter to y^e Mint {o}|t|ill about 1666 {illeg}|h|is dead but his son may have some of his Bills.
